Today's podcast guest, Jamie Wetherell, is a physiotherapist at Active Bodies Physiotherapy with a background in chronic pain education and research. We begin our chat by discussing chronic pain which results from a complex interplay between the body and the brain including how fear and anxiety around pain can be a relevant factor in approaching treatment.
Jamie talks about his philosophy around his physio practice; rather than simply treating a condition and sending a patient on his or her way, he tries to mentor and inspire them to help reach their physical goals. I think there is a lot to be said for being listened to as a patient rather than just being told what is "wrong" with you.
We also talk about dry needling, the release of muscular tension via needling trigger points, surfing and Jamie's deep love of the ocean, and, if that is not enough, Jamie is also a yoga instructor at Power Living.
In our conversation, Jamie refers to J Krishnamurti's teachings on presence and here is a link to his website: https://jkrishnamurti.org/about_landing
